Welcome students! 

 

This practice problem set will help you get familiar with answering open response questions in ASSISTments. Don’t worry- it’s not a real assignment. This is just a way to get some practice as you get used to these kinds of questions.

 

Open response questions are questions within ASSISTments where you type or upload an image, and that your teacher has to score (you will not get immediate feedback on whether you got the answer correct for these questions). 

 

This is an example of an open response question:

In this question you will practice answering an open response question in a different way: By completing the problem on paper, taking a picture of your work, and uploading the picture. 


  1. Draw a smiley face on a piece of paper.

  2. Take a picture with your device/computer, or with your phone, and save the picture to your desktop or folder of your choosing. (If you cannot take a picture, choose a picture you already have).
  3. In the open response box, upload the picture by clicking the  button in the toolbar, drag the image from the folder where you saved the picture into the grey box provided, and click “Insert.”

In this question you will practice inserting a picture for open response questions in a different way: By completing the problem on paper, taking a picture of your work using the camera on your device, and inserting the picture. 


  1. Draw a smiley face on a piece of paper.
  2. In the toolbar above the open response box, take a picture with the camera on your device by clicking the    button, hold up your picture to the camera.
  3. Click "Take Picture" then click "Insert"

In this question, you will practice using the drawing tool, for open response questions. 

  1. Click on the  button in the toolbar above the open response box.
  2. Use the pen tool  to draw a rectangle or the shape tool  to create a rectangle 
  3. Click "Insert" to place your drawing in the open response box.

In this question, you will use our WIRIS editor to enter mathematical symbols or expressions. The WIRIS editor is a math tool which allows you to enter mathematical and algebraic expressions, equations and inequalities.

In this question, you will create a table of values identical to the one pictured below. To do this, press the  button and select the number of rows and columns you want in the table.  

 

In this case, create a table with two columns and four rows. Now enter the values in the image below.

 

 

Note: Once you create the table, you can modify the number of rows and columns. You can also resize it by grabbing the edges and corners.
